The Passages manifesto
Passages was born of a simple conviction: words only really exist when they are exchanged, and real conversation is irreplaceable.
Between people.
Between eras.
Between places and texts.
Memories you didn’t have before.
A desire to learn, to understand yourself and others.
Passages, in the full sense of the word: thresholds we cross, after which we are no longer quite the same.
Who we are
Line Carpentier
Line Carpentier is a professor of modern literature, agrégée and normalienne. After growing up in Charente, she spent over twenty years in Paris. Her dual roots in the provinces and the capital have profoundly shaped the way she teaches and transmits.
His favorite authors are Montaigne, for the art of doubt and movement, Flaubert, for the demands of style, and Proust, for memory, time and the ability of a sentence to contain an entire life.
Marianne Carpentier
Marianne Carpentier founded a sustainable impact and finance consultancy after studying at ESSEC business school.
She lives in Paris, a city she loves for its changeability and immutability, and in particular for the Place de la Bastille, site of every revolution and symbol of a world in constant transformation.
Marianne is convinced that culture and business are not two separate worlds. Understanding Rousseau helps us to think about justice, reading Hugo sheds light on ruptures, and Proust gives us a better grasp of what goes on in human relationships and organizations.
A daughter who received literature as an inheritance, and restored it in her own way.
A mother who learned from her daughter to think differently about the contemporary world.
An adventure both intimate and universal.
Passages Society
is also a society.
A word both deliberately English and deliberately ancient, that says something essential: the idea of a circle.
A community of people who share a curiosity, a demand and a taste for depth.
A club, in the noblest sense of the word: a place where people come together to learn, exchange ideas and be surprised by what culture can still reveal.
The Passages Society is for people who believe that human conversation is worth cultivating.
The time we devote to it is, perhaps, one of the freest acts there is...
